McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Project

We are a federally funded program that seeks to identify, enroll, and serve all homeless children ages 0-21, in the Sioux Falls School District. We provide assistance with school enrollment and transfers, school lunch, transportation, elementary tutoring, school supplies and fees, and referrals to local agencies.

Furniture Mission

Provides recycled furniture & household goods - must have a referral by a community agency.

Goodwill

Serving the Sioux Falls area in a number of different ways, including assisting the homeless population. The Vocational Success Program at Goodwill Industries assists the homeless in gaining self-sufficiency through job training and competitive employment.

Multi Cultural Center - Career Closet

Free career clothing for individuals with clothing needs for interviews and on the job.

Good, clean, affordable clothing, furniture, and household items.

Union Gospel Mission Thrift Store

Offers reasonably priced clothing and household items to the public and free assistance to those in need.

Goodwill Industries -Vocational Success Program

Paid job training and placement for persons who are homeless, with disabilities, or coming out of prison.

South Dakota Career Center

Job referrals and employment training.

Volunteers of America - Vocational Training

Works with individuals who face barriers to employment to teach them employment skills.

Birthright

Provides baby clothes, diapers, and baby formula to those in need. Also provides pregnancy tests and counseling.

Community Outreach

Rent, utility bills, other misc. needs. Must go to County Dept. of Human Services first for financial help.

Inter-lakes Community Action

Assists homeless families with deposit and with heat bills when funds available. Weatherization assistance.

Low Income Energy Assistance Program

Assist with heating costs: propane and fuel oil July 1 through April 30; electric and gas October 1 to April 30.

Minnehaha Co. Dept. of Human Services

Based on eligibility, emergency assistance with rent, utility bills, food and non-food items, dental and medical care, transportation for death in family or verifiable job (bus tickets, gas), prescriptions, and burials.

Salvation Army

Assist with electric bills (must go to County Dept. of Human Services first), food, diapers, prescription assistance, and gas vouchers. (When funds are available).

St. Vincent DePaul Society

Provides assistance with clothes and in other areas where needs have not been met through County Dept. of Human Services and other agencies.

Banquet

The Banquet is an ecumenical ministry offering volunteers the opportunity to provide and serve meals and friendship to disadvantaged, homeless and low-income people of all ages in a safe and comfortable environment.

Economic Assistance - Food Stamps

Walk ins at 8:00am for Food Stamps and TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families).

Food Pantry

Provides a three-day supply of food. Must be referred by a service agency or church.

Union Gospel Mission

Breakfast, noon lunch and an evening meal with Chapel at 8pm with the meal served immediately after. Open to anyone.

WIC (Women, Infants, and Children)

Assistance for pregnant, breastfeeding and postpartum women, and children up to 5 years of age. Participants must meet income, residential and nutritional guidelines.

211 HELP!Line

24-hour information and referral line. Referrals to community programs for financial assistance, food, clothing, medical assistance, social service programs, government agencies, child care and much more.

American Indian Services

American Indian Services serves Native American people in the areas of social and economic assistance through direct and referral services, and by creating opportunities to foster mutual understanding and positive communication between the Native American population and the non-Indian community.

Carroll Institute - Detox

Safe place to detox from drugs/alcohol. Detox will make arrangements for treatment, if so desired.

Food Stamps, TANF, and Medicaid/CHIPS. Also Adult Services and Aging, Child Support, and Child Protection.

East River Legal Services

Provides legal services to eligible low-income people in Eastern South Dakota

Good Shepherd Center

Drop-in center providing laundry, showers, GED classes, phone calls, refreshments, assistance with job and housing searches. Lunch on Wednesdays 11:30am.

HELP!Line Center

The HELP!Line Center strengthens individuals, families and community by bridging people with resources and support. This is done through the 211 HELP!Line, the Suicide HELP!Line, the Child Care HELP!Line, and the Volunteer HELP!Line.

Lutheran Social Services-Refugee and Immigration Services

Provides services to refugees to help them resettle and start a new life in the Sioux Falls area.

SD Driver License Division

Obtain driver's license or ID's (closed Mondays and open Saturdays for renewals). Renewals or ID's can also be obtained at 415 N. Dakota Ave. 2nd floor.

Sioux Empire Homeless Coalition

A grass-roots, community focused advocacy and education organization dedicated to being a voice for people who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

The Glory House

A transitional facility for men and women involved with corrections, mental health, and chemical dependency programs.

Vet Center

Counseling, outreach, and referral services to veterans and their families.

Avera McKennan Free Clinic

Provides primary health care to non-insured. Office visit is free of charge.

Avera McKennan Hospital

Full service hospital with a 24-hour emergency and a free health care clinic to uninsured.

Downtown Women's Health Center

Complete, specialized women's health care. Fees based on income.

Falls Community Health

SD Urban Indian Health

Provides full primary heath care services, prescription assistance, and service for glasses. Medical and dental transports for Native American clients only - prefer a 24-hour notice but will do emergency transports.

Sioux River Valley Community Health Center

Family practice medical and dental clinic. Sliding scale fees.

Sioux Valley Hospital

Full service hospital with 24-hour emergency care.

Southeastern Behavioral HealthCare Homeless Outreach Program

Southeastern Behavioral HealthCare Homeless Outreach Program is designed to provide outreach to the community in an attempt to identify those individuals who are homeless and suffering from mental illness.

Arch Halfway House

Transitional home that responds to the needs of chemically dependent men & women.

Dakota House

A shelter transitional living program for families. Eight apartment units with the focus of preparing a family to maintain their own home in the community.

Transitional housing program for homeless families. The goal is self-sufficiency for the family.

Transitional housing for men with furnished, private bedrooms. Must be employed or financed before moving in.

US Department of Housing and Urban Development

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) provides funding, through competitive grants, to agencies that assist the homeless.

Veterans Hospital

The VA Center provides health care services and veterans benefits for veterans.

Children's Inn

Domestic violence shelter open 24 hours, every day, to women & children needing safe housing.

Mita Maske Ti Ki

Domestic violence and sexual-assault center that specializes in aiding American Indian women.

St. Francis House

A temporary shelter with programs from 7 days up to 9 months for 30 men and 5 women. There is also have a duplex available to help 2 families. Breakfast, sack lunches and a 7PM dinner meal are provided daily for our guests. Maximum of 7 consecutive days at a time. Personal care items are provided for all guests. Check in at 6:00 pm.

Union Gospel Mission

Temporary shelter for homeless men, women and children. 70 beds for males/20 beds for females/children. Serve breakfast, noon lunch and have an evening meal with Chapel at 8pm and the meal served immediately after that. Also offer spiritual counseling,
